    Thursday 21 February, the French Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation Frédérique Vidal, ESA astronaut Thomas Pesquet and CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall were at Paul Sabatier University (UPS) in Toulouse to mark the launch of Generation ISS, a CNES competition for which students will conceive projects and experiments for the astronaut’s next mission on board the International Space Station (ISS).

  6. 30th World Astronaut Congress- 20th anniversary of the Cité de l’espace- Toulouse at the centre of the galaxy!

    The 30th World Astronaut Congress is taking place at the Cité de l’espace in Toulouse this week from Monday 16 to Friday 20 October. CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall, who has followed the flights of all of France’s astronauts for more than 30 years, gave a speech at the opening of the event. Toulouse, Europe’s space capital, was chosen to host this year’s congress as the city concentrating the very best scientific, technological and industrial expertise in space, and as a symbol of European excellence. Jean-Yves Le Gall hailed the success of the Cité de l’espace that is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. CNES was closely involved in founding the space theme park that is doing such a great job bringing space culture to a wide audience and the agency’s President stressed its role in stimulating the public’s keen interest in French spaceflight missions.

    As part of astronaut Thomas Pesquet’s Proxima mission on the International Space Station (ISS) scheduled from November 2016 to May 2017, high-school pupils are at the Toulouse Space Centre on Wednesday 8 and Thursday 9 June to put the finishing touches to their experiments. The youngsters are from five schools selected after a call for projects in March 2015 by the agency’s Youth Education department.

  12. French astronaut Thomas Pesquet to fly to ISS in 2016

    Geneviève Fioraso, France’s Minister for Higher Education and Research, Jean-Jacques Dordain, Director General of the European Space Agency (ESA), and CNES President Jean-Yves Le Gall announced Monday 17 March that French astronaut Thomas Pesquet will make his first spaceflight in late 2016.
